Pods in Print is a subscription service offering transcripts of podcasts.

The client had begun the project with another web development company, and by the time it came to us the site was almost completed, but the client was not entirely happy with the work that had been done. We agreed that the site could be improved. The existing design was dark, cold and technical, and we felt that it would benefit from a lighter, friendlier look. We also felt that it could be easier to use in terms of structure and process.

However, the database had been built before the project reached us, and the client didn't have enough budget left to make extensive changes to it. We therefore chose a few areas which we thought could be improved without making any dramatic changes to the existing development, and worked on those: a complete redesign, a complete recode of the html and css; a restructuring of the information architecture of the site to make it more intuitive; and some smaller changes to the registration, search and buying processes for improved usability.

My involvement

This project was undertaken during my time at FL1 Solutions. I was responsible for all aspects of design and for the build of the wireframes, and collaborated with the client, his marketeer, and the FL1 developers to improve the site structure and user experience within the limits set by the pre-existing development work.
