Classics n Jazz and Super Audio Supplies
These are sister sites for the twin e-commerce ventures of an established classical music shop.
Classics n Jazz is an established music shop with a loyal customer base. They decided to launch two twin e-commerce ventures: Classics n Jazz, the online version of their existing shop, and Super Audio Supplies, a new venture selling SACDs, a new and revolutionary kind of cd. Classics n Jazz was to be launched straight away, with SACD following some time later.
To make matters simple and keep costs down, we decided that the two sites would be powered by the same e-commerce and content management software (FL1's Evolution software) and have the same functionality. The aim was that they would be identical right down to the wireframes, differing only in terms of the css (to allow different designs) and the database (to allow different products and content).
There was little in the way of existing branding for the two ventures. Classics n Jazz had used a silhouetted trumpet player for their signage in the past, and so we decided to use that for the site too. The owners had set up simple holding pages before coming to us, and I took the basic palettes for the two sites from those; SACD used a turquoise colour, and Classics n Jazz various neutrals, to which I added a strong red for highlights to lift it.
My involvement
This project was undertaken during my time at a web development agency. I designed the site, built the wireframes, and connected them to the ecommerce solution.
Sites with a content management system are maintained by the client after completion, and so are constantly evolving. You can view the current CNJ site, or view a screenshot of the original homepage:
